Alex. 76.
I had a small problem with my left knee when I slipped and disconnected the knee in 1959 and I hit it again skiing in 1972.
My main physical problems started on about noon on October 23, 1967. How am I so sure of the time and date? Easy, it is in my “Aviators Flight Log Book”. I was caught in some very bad Clear Air Turbulence (CAT) on a flight from NAS Alameda to Enid AFB. I actually damaged 4 discs in my lower back. I continued to fly since I did not go to the hospital for another six months. I finally went to the hospital for surgery in March 1968.. At that time I was also diagnosed as having a silent heart attack. Needless to say, that stopped my flying career in a hurry.
The pain from the discs was stopped after the surgery but I started having Transient Ischemic Attacks (TIA). Nothing more happened until 1990 when I had a bad Stroke. I had also had slipped on some ice and landed on my right elbow, the pain there was diagnosed as rotator cuff damage. When I was released from the hospital I was given both speech and physical therapy. I later started working at the local health club since I thought that would be better than the work is was being given the Physical Therapy. The Therapist agreed since he could only do so much.
Several years later the pain in my back started again. It became so bad I was sent to a Neuro Surgeon to check it out. He was the opinion that the leg pain was from the sciatic nerve. He had my go to several physicians to check to see if I could get surgery. The first was a Vascular Surgeon. He found that the main pain in my leg was not from the sciatic nerve but that I had a blockage in the artery in the leg. He required me to walk 5 days a week at least 30 minutes, minimum. I had already had Physical Therapy and spine injections in an attempt to stop the pain. The walking stopped the pain in the leg but the back still continued to hurt and caused walking to be a problem.
At this time I had began a member at a local gym and with luck I met Mrs. Sheri Lynn Foster who became my trainer. Within about two weeks, the pain in my back was stopped and walking was no longer a problem. I now can walk up to an hour without stopping except to stop for a drink. Other things that I have noticed in the last year is:
- A very large changed in my posture.
- The size of my chest is 2 inches larger.
- I am about 1 1/2 inches taller.
- The size of my thighs has increased, since I didn’t check them before but they just feel larger.
- My balance is getting better by the week, for us old guys, this is becoming a real plus.
- The small problem in my knee is getting better, with the help I am now receiving, that should be soon gone.
The help I have received by Sheri Lynn has been undoubtedly the best thing that has happened to me and my beat up old body. I am looking forward to more and better things in the future. I consider Sheri Lynn to be a Life Saving Trainer.
